Sharing my Passions & True Beliefs

Posted on: 19 May 2011

Writing a blog is an exciting adventure that is constantly evolving. Most recently I realized that I tend to shy away from writing hard-hitting articles about some of my most passionate beliefs. It’s funny because I’m much more comfortable talking about sex and salaries than I am discussing my spiritual beliefs and views on important political and social matters.

Maybe I’m scared that you’ll stop reading.
Maybe I’m worried that you’ll disagree with me.
Maybe I’m just nervous to stand out and be different…

But wait. Isn’t this blog supposed to be a safe zone for me? For all of us? If I believe in compassion and respect for all living beings what does it matter if we agree or disagree?

Maybe I need to stop letting my worries and anxieties hold me back.
Maybe I shouldn’t view your opposing opinions as a challenge but rather as an opportunity.
Maybe if I start writing about my true beliefs, you will too, and then more and more people will feel empowered.

Maybe, just maybe, writing about equal rights for same-sex couples, women, victims, animals and everything else that is bursting inside of me can help change the world for the better.  If I strongly believe in every one’s ability to change for the better, isn’t the world changing for the better a real possibility? If everyone takes a step in the right direction wouldn’t that make the future a little brighter?

What do you think? Do you find yourself shying away from taboo topics because you don’t want to ruffle any feathers?

Maybe the time has come to stop worrying about offending one another and instead…

it’s time to collaborate, get creative, give back, be open and embrace change.
