What? It’s October?! 2011 Goals Revisted

Posted on: 4 Oct 2011

You probably already realize that I love goals. I really truly do. Not only do I enjoy coming up with New Years Resolutions but I also have many Birthday Goals that I come up with every year around my birthday.

Let’s take a look down memory lane at: Turning 26 Part 3 – Dreams and Goals

Back in February I had only been a vegetarian for a few months, I had never dreamt of participating in a triathlon, I didn’t consider myself a “runner” and I had some vague ideas about volunteering.

Fast forward 8 months and I’m becomming a very aware Vegan, I have completed my first triathlon (woohoo!), I have collected over 500 books for The Elizabeth Stone House, I am going to become a dog walker at the Animal Rescue League and I’m running my first 10K on Columbus Day!!

Seriously people, if anything, those two sentences should show how you really can never say never! So much has changed over the last several months and I’ve never been happier.

Here were the Dreams and Goals that I set for myself for my 26th year

Eliminate debtworking on it…

Save money - doing pretty good but still an uphill battle

Finish novelput on back burner so I can focus on my blog!

Volunteerdoing great! Did a book drive for the Stone House & joined the Animal Rescue League

Join writing groupput on back burner

Learn to let go - honestly, I have to say this is going really well! I just keep trying and reminding myself not to judge or blame anyone and to focus on the positive aspects of my day/life.

Be more adventurous - going good but still need to work on this one!

Stretch and meditate every day - going amazingly well!! I stretch and meditate every single day and feel better because of it!

Spend more time outside - I am so happy that I took up running outside, I spend a lot more time outside and love it!

Go horseback ridingnope (sad face), maybe next summer

Grow a garden - this one I really tried but was not successful, all my plants ended up dying, but I will not give up and someday I will have a beautiful garden

Visit local museumspushed back to this winter when it’s not as nice out

Learn about different religionssame as above!

Take up painting and/or bead making - Painting has become my go-to project away from computers, deadlines and even my body. I love to paint because it lets me calm down, steady my focus and enjoy creating something beautiful.

 2011 Goals: October – December

Wow, there are only 3 months left to the year and quite a lot that I want to do. Recently I read some great words of wisdom in an article in Whole Living magazine, Iris Langdon said “If you want to do something well, you have to commit to doing it at least 3 days a week. That’s how you build it into your psyche and achieve the most you can.”

Now, as you may know, I like to do a lot of different things and while variety is wonderful there are a few areas that I really want to focus on and I think that her advice will truly help me commit to the goals I feel are important.

So I am going to try to limit my nightly activities and really focus each night on one or two areas. For example, I plan on spending 3 nights a week on my blog and 3 nights on my novel and then 1 day a week on painting. This way I am splitting up my time but really committing myself to the areas that are important to me.

ok, this is going to sound really gross, but one of my birthday resolutions is to stop popping pimples!! I’m going to put that under the “some simple yet challenging resolutions”. I’m glad I’m not the only one out there with weird things like that!

Hi Becca, I think that’s a great resolution. I find that doing a honey mask 2 nights a week really helps keep my skin pimple free and it’s super easy. All you do is wash your face, smear honey all over your face, allow it to sit for 10 minutes and then rinse with luke warm water. I do this all the time and love it. Good luck with your resolution!

Agh! I totally do that as well (the picking, I mean). Most likely, that behavior is anxiety related, so I’m trying to get to the root of the problem, as it were.

Also, Erin, many thanks for posting your October-December goals! Very inspiring!

Hi Emily, its nice to know I’m not alone! I have been wearing a hair band around my wrist and every time I pick my skin I move it to the other wrist. It helps me notice a habit that usually goes unchecked. Hopefully it’ll help me quit! Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®
