Trying Something New Can Be Scary

Posted on: 20 Jun 2012

Even though I’ve made it my mission to try something new every single month this year doesn’t mean it’s not a little scary!

Trying something new…

Can cause you to worry, fret, freak out even, as you wade through unknown waters

Makes you feel like a kid again when you didn’t know pretty much anything

Forces you to be in a situation where you may stumble or even fall

Causes you to look at things in a new perspective and possibly change your mind or beliefs

Makes your brain, heart and body work differently and somewhat harder

Gives your life some color, variety and excitement

Helps you meet new people and open your mind to new spices, ideas, beliefs, methods and lifestyles

Can help you get out of a rut or start down a new path

Challenges you to try harder, to do better, to get out of your comfort zone

Helps you grow and connect

Finally, trying something new won’t hurt! Yes, it may be challenging, uncomfortable or even hard BUT it won’t kill you!

And if you get a little embarrassed along the way just laugh it off! It’s better to put yourself out there, try something new and fall on your face then always sitting back terrified of doing anything wrong.

Yesterday I tried a new class (Club Strength) at the gym and even though I am always pushing myself to try new things it’s always a little scary and yesterday I was worried. Worried I wouldn’t keep up with the class. Worried I wouldn’t know what they were doing. Worried that I would look silly. Worried I would make a fool of myself.

But rather than letting my worries hold me back, I told myself:

Everyone is a newbie at some point.
Rather than holding back, rock out and give it your all!

And you know what? I did and the class was great! I pushed aside my worries and fear and found a new class that I love and will definitely go back to!

When was the last time you did something new?
