Wellness Warrior Kendall Covitz

Posted on: 18 Jun 2012

My name is Kendall and I am a 200 hour certified Yoga Instructor and Holistic Nutrition Counselor and owner of On An Inhale.

Currently I am enrolled in the Institute of Integrative Nutrition’s Holistic Health Coach Program. My clients are typically busy people who want to learn how to have a healthy lifestyle no matter what obstacles are thrown in their way. Every client receives a customized program and my unwavering support and knowledge regardless of your location (I’m in Boston but can work with you online).

I love being able to help people not only with yoga but how to fuel their bodies and live an all around healthier lifestyle.

I share yoga, health, healthy eating and fitness tips along with some of my daily life in Boston on my blog, On An Inhale.

Q1. What does wellness and health mean to you?

Wellness and Health means taking care of myself. It means not just looking at the number on the scale but how do I feel? Am I sleeping? Do I have energy? Am I strong? Do I have endurance? Am I getting sick? It isn’t just looks to me but really all around wellness. It’s about finding a healthy balance and quickly noticing when you are out of balance and how to correct it. Listing to my body and respecting it is a great indicator and something that I am always working on getting better at.

Q2. What is the #1 wellness practice you live by?

Not striving for perfection.

Growing up, I was caught up in the perfection cycle. I was either “perfect” by working out and eating “perfectly” or I ate terribly and did not move. I now try to live well rounded. I don’t have any “off limit” foods but rather foods that I just eat less often. I am a holistic nutrition counselor and I find that telling my clients that no food is off limit is a great way to ease their mind and to focus on just including the energizing, healthy foods into their diet.

Q3. Thinking back, what were your earliest influences regarding living a healthy and balanced life?

I learned the hard way. I was not a healthy kid growing up. I didn’t like any activity, until I found yoga and the gym and I craved carbs. It wasn’t until junior year in high school that I decided I didn’t want to live uncomfortably. I started limiting calories and then continued to learn how to live a healthy life. I truly believe we are all evolving with our own particular healthy.

Q4. What has your journey been like over the last couple of years to get you where you are today?

I continued to become more active taking yoga classes, going to the gym and working with trainers. I became a yoga instructor and holistic nutrition counselor. My studies and personal drive to learn more and to feel better has gotten me to a place where I feel really good but I am still on my own healthy journey.

Q5. Looking back what was the most challenging aspect of your journey and what did you learn from it?

The most difficult part of my journey, was the influence of others in middle school and high school. I ate when everyone else ate and found eating to be my source of fun. When I started to take charge of my life, I found that there was a backlash and people accusing me of starving myself and being too strict. I also think that people were threatened by my strength in taking care of myself.

Q6. What is the #1 healthy food you love? The #1 indulgence you give into once in a while?

#1 Healthy Food: Hummus because it is so versatile and a great source of protein.

#1 Indulgence: Macaroni and Cheese will always be one of my favorites

Q7. To get you through challenging moments in life, what is the one mantra or quote that you live by?

Everything is meant to be.

Q8. You’ve accomplished so much so far, what’s something you are most proud of?

I am most proud of taking risks. It is so easy to have a good idea but taking the leap to quit my job and to give myself a real shot at making my career as a blogger, yoga instructor and holistic nutrition counselor is what I’m most proud of.

Q9. What’s your advice to those struggling with finding their own path to health and happiness?

You don’t have to figure it out right away. It takes a long time to figure out a path that works. I encourage people to seek support from a holistic nutrition counselor like myself or someone healthy they admire.

Q10. Finally, what are your plans for 2012?

I plan to grow On An Inhale and run my first 10 mile race!
