In general I prefer to take a yoga class versus practicing at home by myself. I just love the energy and vibrancy of practicing with other yogis and learning new and exciting poses from the instructor. But my schedule doesn’t always allow time for yoga classes so I still rely on my home practice as a place to find growth, balance and strength.
Usually when I practice at home I make up my own sequence but after awhile that can get a bit stale. In the past I used to search on YouTube for yoga videos which isn’t easy… there are SO many yoga videos out there that it’s hard to choose one and then find one that you like. On top of that you have to be careful because a lot of the yoga videos on YouTube aren’t even done by certified instructors; rather they’re created by people who love yoga. Which is great but if I’m using a video to deepen my practice and challenge myself I definitely want a professional that has been trained.
When options 1 and 2 weren’t giving me what I needed I turned to GaiamTV and found the solution.
GaiamTV is just like YouTube BUT they’re not videos of just anybody. Their library is full of videos of some of the greatest yogis, fitness instructors and thought-leaders of our time. Sadie Nardini, Rodney Yee, Jilliam Michaels, Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, and many more are there at your finger tips and simply with a click they can be ther ein your living room guiding you through a practice.
And there are so many practices to choose from – there are specific videos for every type of series: core, strengthing, conditioning, twists, standing, stress relief, pre-natal, power yoga and there are tons of other fitness and wellness videos. They even have some of those amazing, life-changing documentaries like Fat Sick & Nearly Dead and PlanEat. So even though I use it mainly for fitness and yoga videos they have much more to choose from.
Usually I like to start a Saturday morning with one of Jillian Michaels super-intense fat blasting classes, then move onto one of Sadie’s core burning series and wrap up my workout with one of Seane Corn’s Uniting Movement and Breathe. This way I don’t have to rush to a yoga or fitness class but still get in a great workout. And I get to take classes with 3 different instructors which is pretty cool.
Honestly, even though I love to take actual classes, watching fitness videos at home gives me the opportunity to get in a great workout without leaving my house. Best part? GaiamTV is only $9.95 a month which is the equivalent of 2 lattes at Starbucks but definitely a lot better for you. So check it out and let me know what you think. I bet you’ll love it.
