Yoga: A Mini-Vacation to Recharge (and a Gaiam Giveaway!!)

Posted on: 31 Jul 2012

Today is one of those days that I wish I could crawl back into bed and do absolutely nothing all day. After going to NYC for my final doctor’s appointment yesterday and having a pretty busy weekend I’m wiped out and could definitely use a vacation. BUT that’s not going to happen anytime soon so instead I turn to yoga.

My yoga mat is an oasis of peace…

Yoga helps center me one days where I feel discombobulated.

Yoga grounds me on days where I worry I could just float away.

Yoga gives my mind a break from worrying and stressing and thinking.

Yoga lets me simply focus on breathing and moving which is a wonderful experience.

Yoga is a mini-vacation that gives me the chance to re-connect, re-charge and re-energize so I can shake off the weariness that threatens to pull me down and bounce through the rest of my day. Yes, I said bounce. Whenever I come back from yoga I always have a spring in my step and I completely lose the desire to jump back into bed. In fact, after yoga I’m usually more focused and energized.

In appreciation for yoga and all of its wonderful benefits I have a Giveaway from Gaiam today!!!!

All you have to do is comment below and tell me how YOU re-energize and re-collect your sanity on crazy-overwhelming-days and you will be entered into the drawing for a…

I go to yoga twice a week. One of my classes is hot yoga. I definitely feel recharged and centered after yoga. It is a must for me.

    Aw! Thanks

Aw! Thanks for linking to me in the post! I do love to recharge and de-stress with a long run or hit the yoga mat for an amazing Vinyasa class with my favorite music playing.  Both are great ways to escape for mini-vacations! My latest post-work “vacation” is books on tape during my commute home! I’d love to win the mat as it would be perfect as I start Yoga Teacher Training!

Very cool!  I like to take a few moments to calm down, re-write my TO DO list, prioritize, mentally let go of things that don’t really need to be done or emotions from the past, and then get a good nights sleep.

Ah, you read my mind! It’s been running lately, but I love yoga and it’s been a while since it’s been put of my routine!

I re-energize by walking away from what’s causing me stress, take some time to breathe and go back and attack it with a clear mind.

A solo run is usually such a great way for me to re-charge. I can just let both my mind & body wander while I’m out on the road. But I also like to bake for my family. There’s just something satisfying about taking raw ingredients & making something delicious.

I recharge by doing kickboxing after work. It’s a great way to de-stress. At night before bed, a little bit of Yoga with meditation music to calm down.

After a stressful day, I re- energize with a 20 min power nap followed by a detox yoga practice (focused on deep breathing), then a little meditation and finally, spending time with family and friends.

Hot yoga? That’s awesome. It’s on my list of things to try this year!

Oh!! I LOVE listening to books on tape – that’s a great way to unwind after a long day. Good one Whitney! And good luck with your teacher training :)

That’s great advice Amanda. I like the idea of re-writing my TO DO list, seems like a good way to re-prioritize. :) Thanks!

I definitely do this sometimes as well! Sometimes I even just walk around my building or meditate for a few minutes. 3 minutes away can really help you clear your mind. Thanks for the advice!!

Ohhh!! Good one Rhonda! I LOVE cooking and baking – it’s such a fulfilling and helpful way to clear your mind while creating something with your hands. Gives your mind a break and something yummy to eat at the end!

Hi Cheyenne, I agree kick boxing is a great way to blow of steam, currently I take a regular boxing class on Wednesdays and love it!

Hi Priscila (love your name btw), I never nap but have heard that a good snooze is wonderful for the body and the spirit! Instead I usually do legs up the wall – one of my favorite yoga poses.

Sun salutations and tree pose always, always, always help me calm, de-stress, and focus.

I love sun salutations! Especially mixed in with some balance possess really help reconnect me with my core.

  • Jane

I de-stress with yoga on a daily basis for an hour followed by 20 minutes of meditation.  This is my time and helps to center myself and collect my thoughts.  My favorite pose is pigeon forward…love the way it stretches my body and calms me down.

  • Anonymous

Oh good pose! I love forward bend and happy baby too.

    Sweat it out to recharge!

I definitely have begun using yoga to clear my head and body, to just hit the reset button.  Taking a shower also helps, or getting lost in an engaging activity–for example, for me that’d be scrapbooking or something.

    Well said :)

I absolutely love showering!! Especially after a good workout :)
