The Unapologetically Me Project

Posted on: 19 Sep 2012

What would the world be like if you were unapologetically YOU? What would your life, your heart, your mind and soul be like if you stopped apologizing for being yourself? How would you feel? What would you do? How would your life be different?

The insightful and uber-inspiring Carrie Hensely asked that earth-shaking question a couple weeks ago in her newsletter/online and it literally woke me up to the fact that I feel bad for WHO I truly am all the time. I might not be forcefully trying to change who I am BUT I am still apologizing for it.

Seriously I am apologizing ALL the time…

I apologize for being quirky, energetic, deep, ambitious, cheerful, driven, clumsy, productive, loud, silly… etc etc.

I apologize for being a bright soul in life.

I apologize for being ME.

I probably say the word “sorry” hundreds of times every single day. AND sometimes I apologize for things that I didn’t even do!

With this one email from Carrie I realized that apologizing to be me was ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. I am completely fabulous just the way I am and I am tired of apologizing for being me. It’s not necessary. It’s not called for. It’s not good for my soul and my spirit. Just like the day that I embraced my thighs (which took years) I am now embracing myself. Everything. The whole kit-n-caboodle.

I’m done striving to be perfect

I’m done trying to be someone I’m not

I’m done putting myself second

I’m done saying “yes” to things that resonate with me

I’m done struggling against myself

So this is a soul-deep, life-changing commitment I am making to myself every single day going forward (because I’m worth it) :::

I am going to stop apologizing for being me.

Carrie says it best… “The “Unapologetically Me” Project is my year long project to live whole heartedly as me, no apologies. It is a year of shedding the layers of fear, guilt and shame. It is a year of celebrating, honoring, and remembering who I am at my core. It is a journey I hope you will take with me. It is a homecoming of the sweetest kind. One where we awaken to our highest Truth and live connected from this center.”

And I encourage you to whole-heartedly embrace yourself. Reconnect with your amazing authentic self and leave the apologies and excuses at the door. You don’t need them. You’re spectacular just the way you are.

Oh, and if you want to join a community of bright and shiny souls like yourself email Carrie (carrie {at} carriehensley {dot} com) to be part of the Facebook group and get access to the writing prompts, monthly calls and newsletter. As she says, “All you have to do is have a willingness to be true to yourself this year, no apologies.”

    Wow. So inspirational.

I want to do this. It seems very intimidating though. Hmmmm….I have some things to think about and reflect upon now. And I adore your fearlessness in being done with so many things that often occur without even a second thought (at least for me).

Hi Michelle, I’m happy my words resonated with you…… I will say that I am going in knowing that this isn’t going to necessarily be easy BUT I believe it can be easy if you look at it from the point of treating yourself with lovingkindness. Loving yourself. And letting your true self shine. It’s a project though which means that everyday I will have to work towards being unapologetically me and sometimes I may falter but I know in my heart, we all deserve to be and love ourselves.
